We own an Airstream! I can't believe it. It has been a dream of mine for over a year now to own and live out of an Airstream trailer. She is a 1978 30ft Airstream Argosy (which is the painted version of the typical silver Airstream trailers). I really love that they are no longer made anymore and they are pretty rare to find!
Meet our girl Pearl.
Here's what she looked like when we got her.
We've started renovations to make her just they way we want. I've learned that Ben is really handy and that this project is a lot more work than I had originally thought! We are averaging about 1 major project and 2-3 little tasks per day.
We removed all of the icky plastic blinds and the unnecessary window sills from the front & back.
I sealed up all of the rivet/screw holes throughout and cracks in the curved part of the end caps.
We've been using Ben's truck bed as a work bench.
We added on to the existing twin bed frame to hold our new queen mattress!
So far downsizing from a king has been manageable (;
Here's what the frame looks like from the front of the camper.
The standard sized couch at the front was uncomfortable and not necessarily functional.
We turned it into a day bed seating/guest bed area. We still need to pull the drawers underneath of it to the front and rebuild the sides of the couch.
Our old wardrobe was a little too big so we replaced it with one that was shorter and more narrow so that we have more space.
Cutting an Ikea wardrobe to fit in an Airstream is HARD. Those curved walls call for a lot more work than a typical travel trailer.
We also mounted a 40" TV on a full motion bracket. It can move from the front to the back and it can also look like it isn't even there!
Ben did some electrical work to add an interior outlet where that exterior one is. So now we have two! Like I said, I'm really impressed with how handy he has been throughout this whole process.
We still have to paint, replace the kitchen cabinets, and a few other minor tasks before we can move our belongings in. We're so excited for our new home!
